ParkinSong was inspired by Michael J. Fox
Watching the effects of a debilitating disease up close made Parkinson's very personal for actor Richard Kind, launching him into action.
"Why am doing this? Well, I watched Parkinson's overtake the life and the career of somebody I worked very closely with"That "somebody" was actor Michael J. Fox, back when he and Kind worked together on the TV show Spin City. The ParkinSong benefit was first staged three years ago in memory of Selma Litowitz, a beloved high school English teacher from Lawrence, N.J., who succumbed to the disease in 2005. Her most famous student, The Daily Show's Jon Stewart, hosted the first ParkinSong benefit - helping to raise $75,000 that year - and he's been a vocal proponent of finding a cure ever since.
