Julia Roberts: we can save the earth little by little

Julia Roberts has said her children have made her see the importance of recycling and other green issues.
Because we did create the problem little by little and that’s the way we’re gonna have to fix it, little by little, the best we can.
Every time I go to the grocery store carrying my grocery sacks back from the time before, I feel happy. All the tiny things, I think, really do make a difference.
Julia Roberts on ways to stay green

Seven years ago, JULIA ROBERTS won an Oscar for her portrayal of an environmental crusader now she’s become one herself with her politically astute and media-savvy campaign for biodiesel. JULIA ROBERTS talks to Elle Magazine about her work.
It sounds corny, but it’s true: It’s our absolute responsibility to take care of our children so that we don’t just throw up our hands and say, ‘Wow, we pretty much f—ked this up. Good luck to ya in 50 years.’ Because we did create the problem little by little and that’s the way we’re gonna have to fix it, little by little, the best we can.

Julia Roberts is going green for the sake of her kids

Now that she's soon going to be a mom-of-three, it seems that Julia Roberts is determined to do her bid to protect the environment.
Even the bathrooms will have recycled tiles," a source told Life Style magazine.

And, once her eco-friendly home is ready, Roberts plans to turn her attention to fuel.
The actress admits that she had no problems driving around in a car that made her smell like French fries, if it meant that her kids future would be better.

"I have a hybrid car, but I want something that runs on vegetable oil. I think it's a small price to pay to smell like a French fry," she said.

Julia Roberts Joins Earth Biofuels, Inc. as Spokesperson

Earth Biofuels, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: EBOF - News) today announced that actress Julia Roberts will become a spokesperson for the company and will chair the company's newly formed Advisory Board. Ms. Roberts joins fellow Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman and country music legend Willie Nelson in promoting the use of renewable fuels such as Earth Biofuels' biodiesel and ethanol.

"It's very important that we expand our use of clean energy and make a long-term commitment to it," Roberts said. "Biodiesel and ethanol are better for the environment and for the air we breathe."

The Advisory Board will provide guidance to senior management on key issues and will serve to broaden biofuels awareness on a national scale. Earth Biofuels and Ms. Roberts will collaborate on a program to encourage the use of clean-burning biodiesel fuel in the more than 500,000 diesel school buses currently in service across the United States.

"The use of biodiesel is a positive step toward minimizing pollutive emissions and greenhouse gases," Roberts added. "By focusing on school buses, we can affect the health and wellbeing of the people most susceptible to that pollution -- our children -- today."

"We are very pleased, to say the least, that Ms. Roberts has accepted our invitation to become a spokesperson for the company and chair our Advisory Board," said Earth Biofuels Chairman and CEO, Dennis McLaughlin.

Biodiesel is refined from vegetable oils such as soy, canola, and recycled restaurant grease. Today, B20 is the most common and fastest growing biodiesel blend in the United States. It reduces hydrocarbon emissions by 20 percent and carbon monoxide and particulate emissions by 12 percent. Additionally, biodiesel reduces vehicle sulfur emissions on average by 20 percent, plus biodiesel is nontoxic and biodegradable. Biodiesel is the only alternative fuel certified by the Environmental Protection Agency that fulfills the requirements of Section 211 (B) of the Clean Air Act.

Julia Roberts supports campaign to raise oil taxes

LOS ANGELES Actress Julia Roberts has added her name to a growing list of celebrities and politicians supporting a proposal, to be put to voters next month, that would tax oil to fund alternative energy research.
"We're all victims of this state's tragically poor air quality," she said. "California has the worst air pollution in the nation."
Roberts toured the Mattel Children's Hospital at the University of California at Los Angeles on Monday while urging the public to vote for the proposal, known as Proposition 87, in the Nov. 7 elections. She joins actors James Caan and Gina Davis, as well as former President Bill Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore, who are supporting it.
The Nov. elections involve races for Congress and, in 36 states, for governor. Numerous referendums are included on state ballots because it is practical to conduct the votes at the same time.
The California measure would tax companies drilling for oil in the state until it has generated $4 billion (€3.2 billion), money that would be set aside for loans, grants and subsidies to promote alternative fuels and more energy-efficient vehicles.
After her tour, Roberts talked about pollution links to cancer, premature death and asthma. She also quoted Clinton who said that by the age of two months, babies in Los Angeles have breathed enough toxins to reach the Environmental Protection Agency's lifetime limit for cancer risk.
Oil pumped in California accounted for 37 percent of the state's demand in 2005, according to the state Legislative Analyst's Office. Twenty-one percent of the state's oil comes from Alaska, while the rest is imported from abroad. The initiative would tax California oil producers between 1.5 percent and 6 percent depending on the per-barrel price of oil.
Opponents say oil companies that do business in California pay the fifth-highest taxes in the country. They say adding another tax would deter the oil companies from pumping California oil and eventually lead to higher gas prices.
